Ball recognition is one of the most important skills to develop as a player.  If you can determine where the ball will bounce and how it will react to the court surface, you can position yourself to be in the correct place at the precise time. Shifting the eyes from striking the ball to noticing the body position and the racquet position of your opponent is the first stage of anticipation.
